Open
Day Success for Rugby Cement Works
Rugby
Cement recently held an Open Day at their Barrington Works
near Cambridge. Over 1,000 visitors attended an exciting
day packed with activities including quarry, works and laboratory
tours and the return to site of the original steam locomotive
"The Barrington", part of Barrington's unique
railway system which carries raw material from the site
quarry to the works.
The
Environmental Display Area attracted a high number of visitors
where exhibits from the RSPB, Wildlife Trust, The Environment
Agency and PCME Ltd proved to be very popular. Particulate
emission monitoring became fun on the PCME stand where visitors
tested their skill in keeping emissions within permissible
limits on a new computer game.
Recent
developments on site have all been aimed at improving the
environmental performance of the works, including the installation
of a secondary liquid fuel plant and upgraded precipitators
together with environmental monitoring systems which include
a PCME MCERTS accredited particulate emission monitor.
Linda
Furnell, Marketing Manager at PCME Ltd said, "We were
delighted to be asked to take part in this event and to
support Rugby Cement in promoting their commitment to the
environment at this special event."
